Welcome to the MBS community! We’re excited that you are beginning your seminary journey with us. To help you get started, we have compiled the following checklist. Ideally, this checklist should be completed at least 2 weeks before the first day of class.

Download Documents

MBS updates our Student Handbook and Academic Catalog annually in the summer months. Please make sure that you download this year’s current Student Handbook and Academic Catalog each August prior to registering for classes. While we will go over these documents during Student Orientation in August, it is your responsibility to be familiar with the content in these documents. You are also encouraged to download the current MBS Research, Writing, and Style Guide. All first year students will take an Introduction to Research and Writing Workshop that will cover the material in the Writing Guide.

Find a Mentor

What it is: Here at MBS, we take seriously the vital ministry of mentoring. We see this relationship as being the hub of the wheel for ministry. Each student must have a mentor that will walk with them through their time of study and meet regularly with them during their enrollment at MBS. Contact the Dean of Mentoring for an appointment to discuss your choice of mentor. They will work with you to identify a suitable mentor.

How it works: Because we desire this relationship to be a significant and formative part of your time at MBS, we assign 12 credit hours to the development of this ministry. These hours are necessary to meet graduation requirements, and are assigned by the following rubric: 1 credit hour per term (4 per academic year) across all 3 years of enrollment.

Your responsibility: Once you have identified your mentor, a signed agreement must be submitted by the beginning of your first term at MBS. This will be done exclusively through Populi, but you can expedite the process by sending the name and email address of your mentor to MBS’ Admin Assistant. The schedule and materials required can be found in the Mentoring Manual. Subsequently, both a mentor report and a student report must be submitted through Populi each term. Your mentor will assign a letter grade that will be recorded each quarter.

Select a Practicum Track

(B.Th. and M.Div. students only)

We offer 5 tracks of ministry pursuit in which your practicum hours will be focused. Your practical ministry will be arranged through the Dean of Students in cooperation with your mentor and local church. Descriptions and requirements for each can be found in our Academic Catalogue. Contact the Dean of Students to arrange an appointment to discuss which track is right for you.

  1. Pastoral Ministry Track

  2. Non-Ordained Church Ministry Track

  3. Church Planting and Renewal Track

  4. Urban Ministry Track

  5. Biblical Counseling Track

Register for Classes

The course of study for Bth and MDiv students can be completed in three years by taking two classes for each of four terms per academic year. All students in each yearly cohort will move through the course of study together. Year 1 classes are offered every year, and Year 2 and Year 3 classes alternate. Wherever you are in your course of study, details on registration can be found here.
